Good governance is essential for new schools in today's complex world. The Governing Body sets the vision and expectations for the school.
It ensures compliance with the minimum requirements from regulators and it ensures that all development in the school is framed by clear policies and guidelines. It applies benchmarking takes place in order to keep the school competitive and it sets expectations for how teaching staff will be supported, personally and professionally, so that they are happy and prosper at the school.
The Governing Body achieves all this by calling for school policies in a timely manner, by checking and testing them, by calling for appropriate data, by empowering the school with the resources the senior staff identify as their priority requirements, and by making sure evaluation and feedback are in place so that implementation and impact are assessed.
